Daily disposable contact lenses

In recent years the biggest innovation by far has been the introduction of daily disposable contact lenses which means, amongst other things, that you no longer need to maintain a miniature science laboratory in your bathroom!

As the term suggests, daily disposable lenses are renewed daily. All that is required of you is to insert new lenses in the morning and then dispose of them in the evening. It really is as simple as that. Daily disposable lenses also give you more freedom to pick and choose which days you wear contact lenses and which days you wear spectacles.

Furthermore, the very latest, thin lenses all but eliminate the need to gradually build up "wearing time", enabling wearers to reach full wearing time almost immediately*.

*The appropriate wearing time as recommended by your contact lens practitioner must always be adhered to. Over wearing of lenses can result in injury to the eye.

Rigid Lenses:

Traditionally called Gas-permeable lenses. These lenses can be worn for 16+ hours a day, give excellent visual performance and are generally the most cost-effective to run.

They require a short adaptation period to become completely comfortable but once this is acomplished, they afford an excellent long-term solution to eliminate the wearing of spectacles.

They can also be made in Bifocal / Multifocal form.

Soft Lenses:

These are the most popular lenses fitted at present. This is due to the immediate wearing comfort of these lenses together with the flexibility of occasional or all day disposable wear.

These come in a variety of wearing regimes from three-monthly & six monthly replacement through to Monthly & two weekly disposable lenses. Modern cleaning & disinfection methods are very straight forward and take no more than a couple of minutes a day to undertake.

There are also Coloured and Bifocal options available.

Extended wear lenses:

A new specialised form of soft lens is now available that can be worn for 30 days continuously without removal. The new Silicon Hydrogel material allows the eye to breathe safely underneath the lens.

Orthokeratology Lenses:

This practice is one of the pioneers in this country of these lenses. The lenses are worn overnight and reshape the eye so that they can be removed during the day, correcting the eye to give excellent vision without the lens. This is excellent for sports and occupational use.
