You are entitled to an NHS Sight Test usually every two years. Please bring along your NHS card or benefits booklet as evidence of entitlement and we will be happy to book you in.
Who qualifies for an NHS sight test?

• Children under 16
• Full time students under 19
• Those receiving Income based benefits
• Over 60s
• People with diabetes or glaucoma
• People over 40 with immediate family history of glaucoma
• Those registered blind or partially sighted
Euin Steele & Partners have been leaders in looking after the eye care of Thurrock since 1935. Over 20 years ago we were one of the first optical Practices to bring ocular photography to the area.
The high resolution images are used to view areas of the back of the eye not previously viewed in standard eye examinations. The Optomap is used to locate and diagnose a large range of sight-threatening problems including ocular tumours, retinal tears, detachments and cysts. As well as diagnosing more common conditions such as birthmarks, effects of diabetes, high blood pressure and peripheral retinal degenerations.
With all eye problems, it is important to pick them up early in their development. Treatments are more effective in controlling or curing eye problems at an earlier stage.

Optomap Retinal Examination uses ultra-high-resolution imaging to capture nearly the entire back of the eye in a single scan. It provides a view up to 50 times larger than standard retinal photography, with images taken quickly and painlessly using low-powered lasers.
This advanced technology helps detect serious eye conditions, such as retinal detachment and retinal tumours, earlier than traditional examination methods.
The new Optos SLO OCT is an advanced eye examination technology that can be used in conjunction with the Optomap or as a stand-alone examination. The OCT scanner creates highly detailed three-dimensional images of the inside of the eye, allowing us to view the microscopic layers of the retina and anterior eye in exceptional detail. This plays an important role in the early detection, diagnosis and monitoring of a range of eye conditions, helping us provide accurate assessments and guide patients on the most appropriate treatment options. It is particularly valuable in detecting conditions such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and other retinal abnormalities.
Pupil dilation may be required for some examinations.

How long does an eye examination take?
